From the Reporter
The Issue
San Diego’s regional planning agency, Sandag, relies on complicated models and formulas to make billion-dollar decisions about transportation projects.
The Fight
Advocates have long wanted to dig into those models to understand how Sandag decides what to spend on. But Sandag has resisted, and has only released the models to advocates after they threatened to sue.
Raising the Pressure
State regulators, the attorney general and the governor’s office all want the agency to make its models widely available and understandable so the public can participate in the agency’s decisions.
